In 1976, our founder Joanie Shea, wanted to get people started in running and toget them started the right way. This principle is one of the primary goals of the club to this day. Joanie eventually moved away from the area and the club floundered for awhile. Around 1984, the club recognized it needed someone to take over the reins as president. Celeste Fondaco was sitting nearby minding her own business. Someone asked her if she'd like to be President. Celeste answered with a hesitating, "I guess so." She was drafted on thespot. What resulted was unparalleled growth and prosperity for the club. Celeste is legendary for her ability to attract new members with her cheerful requests to runners she meets by chance on the roads - "why not join the Amazing Feet?" She is often described as the heart and soul of the Amazing Feet. After many years of tireless work for the club, often with little assistance, Celeste decided to turn the reins over to someone else. A new president and vice president have been elected about every two years since. But, to her credit, Celeste and other past officers have remained available to help keep the club vital and active.
At the present time, the members of the Executive Committee, installed on January 1, 2006 are:
Rob Brigham, President Anne Carlson-Zyats, Vice President Celeste Fondaco, Treasurer Gabi Tremml, Member-At-Large Mike Lawrence, Member-At-Large
The club has evolved from primarily a "fitness" promoting organization, to one whose members have a fairly wide range of interests. While promoting fitness and maximizing quality of life is still the foundation of the Amazing Feet Running Club, many members are avid marathon runners, du- and triathloners as well as ultra marathoners.
Membership
At present, the club has about 70 members that are pretty evenly split
between men and woman. Almost all of the members reside in the Morris,
Somerset and Union County area. Member's range in age from the 20's
with a fairly large contingent of masters runners (over 40). Like more information? Email the club president now.
Amazing Feet Running Club would like to welcome its new members. Please be sure to say hello if you meet them at future group runs.
